Appointments
To be sure that a convenient appointment time will be available, please schedule appointments as far in advance as possible.
Cancellations and missed appointments
Missed appointments will be charged identically to kept appointments. Appointments may be cancelled and rescheduled at any time, but appointments not cancelled by 10 am of the business day before the appointment (including Friday cancellations for Monday appointments) will be charged as full appointments.
Medication Refills
Please allow at least 24 hours for a medication refill. Refills requested on Friday will often not be completed until Monday. Ask your pharmacy to send a refill request to the office. Please note that there will be a charge for medication refills obtained outside of appointment times.
Medication samples
Unfortunately, Dr. Morehead does not have access to free medication samples.
Telephone Calls
There is no office staff to answer the phone. Most treatment questions and decisions should be discussed during appointment times. Regardless of the reason for the call, Dr. Morehead will attempt to return all calls within 24 hours, usually at the end of each business day. If you are not able to wait for a returned call, you may call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (988lifeline.org) at 988, dial 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.
Hospitalizations
Dr. Morehead does not have hospital privileges. This means he cannot admit patients to a hospital or serve as their hospital doctor. In an emergency, he can try to help arrange hospitalization, but cannot guarantee that a hospital doctor or bed will be available. If you feel you need hospitalization for your own safety and cannot wait to speak with him, call 911, report to the nearest emergency room, or call the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988.
In central Texas, you may call Shoal Creek Psychiatric Hospital (3501 Mills Avenue, Austin, TX 78731) at 512-324-2000. Other options are Laurel Ridge Hospital (17720 Corporate Woods Dr, San Antonio, TX 78259, 210-491-9400) and Baylor Scott & White (2401 S. 31st St, Temple, TX 76508, 254-724-2111). In southern Maine, you may go to your nearest emergency room, or for the Maine Medical Center Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (P6), go to the Emergency Department at 22 Bramhall Street, Portland, ME 04102, or call 207-662-0111. In Boston, you may go to Tufts Medical Center (800 Washington St, Boston, MA 02111) or call 617-636-5000.
If you feel you are likely to need hospitalization during the course of treatment, it may be advantageous for you to see a different psychiatrist, who can admit you to a hospital and see you as your hospital doctor.
Emergencies
Dr. Morehead will be available to help deal with emergencies, but will not always be immediately available. During workdays, he will usually be in appointments. If you can wait for a returned call, all urgent calls are returned later the same business day, though sometimes not until the end of the day.
Insurance
Dr. Morehead is not a provider on any PPO (Preferred Provider) or HMO (Health Maintenance Organization). He is a Medicare provider, but out-of-network for all Medicare Advantage or Medicare Alternative plans. He is not a Medicaid provider in any state. He will be able to file claims for patients on standard Medicare plans only. Otherwise, he will not be able to file insurance claims, even for out-of-network benefits. He can provide you with the correct information to file for your own out-of-network benefits. If additional documentation is required by your insurance company, he will provide it; however, there will be a charge for time spent preparing this documentation.
Confidentiality
All information discussed during appointments and phone calls, as well as all medical records, is confidential and will not be released except with your permission. State laws mandate several exceptions to this confidentiality: (1) if your doctor has reason to believe you might be a danger to yourself or others; (2) in an emergency situation where others might need medical information to treat you; or (3) when a judge orders the release of medical information.

Fees are current, but subject to future change.
Payment
All charges are due at the beginning of each appointment. If you are unable to pay, please come to your appointment anyway, and we will make a plan to address the situation. Charges not paid within 90 days may be sent to a collections agency; in these cases, an additional charge will be added to cover the cost of the collection agency’s fees.
